Stepping Up: Duke's Take the Stairs challenge
Take the Stairs is a stair-stepping program that can help you increase your physical activity, get closer to your health goals, and earn prizes.Run by LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee wellness program, participants work their way through different levels of stair-stepping, from the equivalent of a mile (2,000 steps) to the equivalent of a marathon (52,400 steps). As you reach each level, you can record your session online or submit your log files to LIVE FOR LIFE to receive a prize from the LIVE FOR LIFE store.
No matter what the pace, stair climbing is a great addition to your exercise plan. It doesn't require any special equipment. You can do it just about anywhere. It's free. And there's no need to worry about the weather.

Primetime Employee Forum: Emergency Management
Kyle Cavanaugh, Duke's vice president for administration and emergency coordinator, was the guest at Primetime, Duke's online employee forum, on Oct. 26, 2011. 2011 Duke Health Fair

Duke and Downtown: Enjoying Durham's Amenities
In the last 10 years, Duke's square footage of space in downtown Durham has grown by more than 15 times over. There was about 34,000 square feet between three locations in 2001. Today, Duke takes up more than 535,000 square feet spread across 14 buildings and spaces on about a mile stretch of downtown between Brightleaf Square and the American Tobacco Campus.That means Duke faculty and staff get to enjoy the amenities of Durham while not straying far from their Duke home.
