The Canadian-U.S. Energy Relationship: Business, Politics, and the Environment
The Duke University Energy Initiative hosts a panel of energy experts from Canada, who explore current business, political and environmental issues that shape the energy relationship of Canada and the United States. These include oil sands and shale gas production; Canadian hydrocarbon transport to the U.S.; foreign national resource ownership; the water, air and cultural impacts of resource extraction; and more. Who Owns the Arctic? Michael Byers at Duke
Dr. Michael Byers spoke on the question, "Who Owns the Arctic's Oil?" on March 27, 2012 at 4:30 PM in the Duke University Energy Hub. Dr. Byers holds the Canada Research Chair in Global Politics and International Law at the University of British Columbia. Prior to 2005, he was Professor of Law and Director of Canadian Studies at Duke University; from 1996-1999 he was a Fellow of Jesus College, Oxford University. Michael is a regular contributor to the Globe and Mail, Toronto Star and Ottawa Citizen, and a frequent guest on the CBC, CTV and Global. His most recent book is "Who Owns the Arctic?" Armory Lovins: Bold Business Solutions for the New Energy Era
On March 14, 2012 at 10am at Duke University, Amory B. Lovins, spoke on his new book, "Reinventing Fire: Bold Business Solutions for the New Energy Era." Amory is the co-founder, chairman and chief scientist of Rocky Mountain Institute, a independent entrepreneurial nonprofit think-tank. Amory is a consultant, experimental physicist and 1993 MacArthur Fellow who has been active at the nexus of energy, resources, environment, development, and security in more than 50 countries for 35 years, including 14 years based in England. Gas Drilling and America's Energy Choices
John Hanger delivered a lecture titled, "The Truth and Nothing but the Truth about Gas Drilling and America's Energy Choices" on February 8, 2012 at 4:30PM at the Duke University Energy Hub Room103. This event was part of the Duke University Energy Initiative Speaker Series.John Hanger is a nationally recognized expert on environment, energy, gas drilling and green economy issues who has unique experience in government and in the private sector. He is one of two Pennsylvanians who have served both as a Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection and as a Commissioner of the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission.

On January 18, 2012 the Duke University Energy Initiative held a "Haynesville" screening and Conversation with filmmaker Gregory Kallenberg at 5:30 PM at the Energy Hub/Gross Chem Room 107 at Duke UniversityDirector/Producer Gregory Kallenberg screened his film, "Haynesville: A Nation's Hunt for Energy," which highlights a natural gas resource discovery in Louisiana. After the film Gregory Kallenberg discussed the film and took questions from the audience.
