ELI Alum Dan Kimberg on 'Beloved Community'
Enterprising Leadership Initiative (ELI) Alum Dan Kimberg gives us a look at a concept that inspires him, "beloved community." Learn more about what "beloved community" means to Dan, and what each of us can do to act on creating a beloved community in our own life. Dan Kimberg is the Executive Director of Student U, a nonprofit organization in Durham which he initially developed through ELI's PPS144s class. Dan graduated from Duke in 2007 to launch Student U and its innovative students-teaching-students model that inspires middle and high school students to take their education into their own hands. Awarded nonprofit of the year by the Durham Chamber of Commerce in 2010, Student U now serves over 250 students annually. ELI is an initiative of the Hart Leadership Program, an undergraduate program in Duke's Sanford School of Public Policy. ELI offers classes and co-curricular programs that help undergraduate students act on their passions to address real-world problems, while also developing skills and efficacy to produce real results as lifelong leaders of social change. How to be a Good Salesperson
The Enterprising Leadership Initiative (ELI) team snagged Luke after he led a workshop for ELI students on sales. Luke has extensive experience in sales and took a few minutes to boil down his experience into important lessons and insights about how to not just be good at sales, but a "good" salesperson.ELI is an initiative of the Hart Leadership Program, an undergraduate program in Duke's Sanford School of Public Policy. ELI Incubator Project: ASPIRE!
This video is a brief look at one of the Duke ELI (Enterprising Leadership Initiative) Incubator Projects, ASPIRE, and the experiences of the project's two founders, Alex MacLeish and Grace Zhou.ASPIRE (After School Programs Involving Recreational Enrichment) is an initiative envisioned by Alexandra MacLeish and Grace Zhou, two students in Tony Brown's Changemaker Leadership course, Fall 2010. The program seeks to reinforce positive social skills and behaviors through recreational games for kids and teens at local elementary schools and community centers. As of Spring 2012, ASPIRE serves 60 elementary-aged children and works with 15 Duke student volunteers each semester.
