#TodayWeRemember @ Duke University (April 7th-8th, 2013)
On Holocaust Remembrance Day 2013, over 200 students, faculty, and administrators at Duke University came together to honor the legacies of victims of genocide throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. On Sunday, April 7th, students heard three Holocaust survivors share their stories. Then, after throughts and prayers from several of Duke's faith leaders, the community began a 24-hour reading of names of victims from 6 different genocides- Armenia, the Holocaust, Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda, and Darfur. To conclude the day, over 50 students gathered with Duke's VP of Student Affairs and second generation survivor, Larry Moneta, to reflect on the significance of preserving memory of past genocide on campus and beyond. The event was organized by Duke's Coalition for Preserving Memory (CPM)- www.todayweremember.org.
