Primetime: Digital Duke

This Duke Primetime employee forum focuses on how technology is changing communication, research and teaching at Duke. The event was held on Tuesday, Feb. 1, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Griffith Theater in the lower level of the Bryan Center and featured Tracy Futhey, vice president for the Office of Information Technology, and Mike Schoenfeld, vice president for public affairs and government relations. As part of an ongoing effort to enhance internal communications, the Office of Communication Services introduced quarterly forums in 2006 called Primetime to provide a venue for staff and faculty to hear directly from senior administrators on significant issues and events at Duke. http://www.hr.duke.edu/primetime/index.php

Zipcar Offers Alternative to Parking at Duke

Duke's Zipcar fleet recently increased and now features eight vehicles at four locations on Duke's East and West campuses.

Students can uses Zipcar instead of bringing a car to campus and the car-sharing program offers a way for faculty and staff to get off campus at a moment's notice without having their own car around.

To join Zipcar, faculty, staff, and students pay a $35 registration fee that is applied as a credit toward reservations in the first month. The cost to reserve a car is $8 per hour or $66 per day. Fuel, maintenance and insurance are included. Reservations are accepted for a one hour minimum, up to a maximum of four days. All memberships, reservations and payments are administered and managed by Zipcar.

Duke Parking and Transportation Tests Out Nova Bus

On Nov. 5, 2010, Duke Parking and Transportation Services officials hosted test runs for students on an articulated Nova Bus, shuttling students between the university's East and West campuses. The event was an effort to test buses that may eventually become part of Duke's fleet.

This Halloween, local zombies took to the Bull City Connector in their search for fresh brains.

Like the zombies, Duke students and employees can use the fare-free bus to get around town and from campus-to-campus.

Snapshots from Duke's 2010 Pumpkin Fun Run

Duke's Pumpkin Fun Run was held Oct. 23 and will be back next October. This year's event raised about $400 to support The Duke Pediatric Blood and Bone Marrow Transplantation program. In addition to running and walking the 2.9-mile Al Buehler Trail near the Washington Duke Golf Course, more than 150 Duke employees, families and friends enjoyed dancing, music and a roving magician. The event was hosted by LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee wellness program.
