On May 2, about 500 Duke faculty and staff members gathered at the Durham Performing Arts Center for a reception and celebration of Duke's partnership with Durham and Duke's commitment to downtown Durham. Recapping Earth Month 2011
After a full month of events in April, Sustainable Duke outreach coordinator Casey Roe recaps highlights from the environmentally-themed events of April. Students, faculty and staff groups from across campus planned 40 events between April 1 and 29 to celebrate Duke's commitment to sustainability. After kicking-off the month with a special screening of the documentary "Carbon Nation" and the start of the annual SmartCommute Challenge, other events included tours of the Sarah P. Connecting Duke and the World
In April 2011, Duke faculty and staff gathered for the unveiling of the university's latest Cisco TelePresence system to connect Duke's West Campus in Durham to Duke's Marine Lab in Beaufort. Duke's 2011 Edible Book Festival
Every year, the Duke Library System hosts its Edible Book Festival to benefit the Library Memorial Fund. In its sixth year, the festival hosted numerous food-based creations that reflected famous books or book titles. Students, faculty and staff provided entries made of a variety of items - from eggs to ice cream cake.During the event, visitors can vote for which entry is the most or least edible as well as the "punniest."
