Duke Students turn Crowell Quad into skating rink
Fun on ice wasn't restricted to the Winter Olympics this past weekend.
At Duke, students enjoyed a Friday evening of ice-skating on a rink of artificial ice on the Crowell Quad.
"It was an excellent event," said student Stephen Temple, a member of the Campus Council, one of the sponsoring organizations. The council is the student residential governing body. Temple said the group hoped the event would help engage student residents and give them an opportunity to socialize.
"We wanted to create an event that would bring out a lot of students from all of the classes. We thought this would be a fantastic way to foster a community between all of the quads and classes."
The rink was made of plastic blocks with a synthetic coating that mimicked ice like conditions. Skates were provided.
