ELI Alum Dan Kimberg on 'Beloved Community'

Published 1 year ago

Enterprising Leadership Initiative (ELI) Alum Dan Kimberg gives us a look at a concept that inspires him, "beloved community." Learn more about what "beloved community" means to Dan, and what each of us can do to act on creating a beloved community in our own life. Dan Kimberg is the Executive Director of Student U, a nonprofit organization in Durham which he initially developed through ELI's PPS144s class. Dan graduated from Duke in 2007 to launch Student U and its innovative students-teaching-students model that inspires middle and high school students to take their education into their own hands. Awarded nonprofit of the year by the Durham Chamber of Commerce in 2010, Student U now serves over 250 students annually. ELI is an initiative of the Hart Leadership Program, an undergraduate program in Duke's Sanford School of Public Policy. ELI offers classes and co-curricular programs that help undergraduate students act on their passions to address real-world problems, while also developing skills and efficacy to produce real results as lifelong leaders of social change.
