The semester is now underway. Some students returned early for the Winter Forum and headed to the Duke Marine Lab on the North Carolina coast for three days of programs exploring the world's oceans.

In research news, a new Duke study finds bonobo primates prefer to share food with a stranger before sharing it with an animal they already know.

In case you missed it over the break: Duke, Chinese and U.S. officials celebrated the preliminary approval of Duke Kunshan University; Dr. Robert Lefkowitz was named a Tar Heel of the year by the (Raleigh) News & Observer; sophomore Bryan Silverman was named College Entrepreneur of the year; Coach K was named one of U.S.A.
